General Overview

MEDS Service provision has continued to develop over the years. The work has predominantly been in three areas:

1. MEDS Enterprise and Economic Development Programmes.
2. MEDS Community Regeneration Programmes.
3. MEDS Social Recreational and Community Development Programmes.

Overwhelmingly our work to date has concentrated on the first of these areas. More details about our work with Community Regeneration and Social, Recreational and Community Development can be viewed in our Annual Report.

In our Enterprise and Economic Development work, two main projects have emerged:

Enterpreneurship and Business Start-up

In encouraging business startup and entrepreneurship, MEDS assists its clients with the preparation of a business plan submitable to potential financial service providers and provides clients with links with professional bodies. We also endeavour to provide the relevant training courses to equip clients to engage fully in business ventures. Entrepreneurship and Business Start-up programmes are delivered in partnership with Greater Manchester Enterprise Business Link, HMS Customs and Excise, Liverpool Chamber of Commerce, and other community organisations.

Assisting Existing Businesses to Develop and Expand

Enabling existing businesses to develop and expand involves providing business/employment/finance related advice and information, the relevant training, sign-posting clients to business development organisations and introducing businesses to a network of businesses across the Northwest. In cases of business expansion, we also assist clients in writing new business plans.

Learning and Skills Council, Greater Merseyside Enterprise Business Link, Liverpool Chamber of Commerce, Liverpool City Council, HMS Customs and Excise, local business management training providers, and other community organisations work with MEDS to deliver this.
